The rains have left at least one dead in Catalonia

The heavy rains that have fallen in recent hours in Catalonia and elsewhere in the eastern part of the Spanish state have left at least one dead.

Emergency services found the body of a man in the early morning hours of Thursday 500 metres from the location of his vehicle in Olivella, in the Barcelona region of Garraf, dragged by a flood, the Catalan firefighters reported.

Civil Protection of the Generalitat sent a message of Es-Alert to the mobile phones of the regions of Baix Llobregat, Vallès Occidental, Garraf, Alt Penedès (Barcelona) and Baix Penedès (Tarragona) at around 23:10, in anticipation of heavy rain until 1 a.m. on Thursday morning.

  
The message warning of the danger of sudden flooding advised extreme caution when travelling, following the instructions of the authorities and calling 112 in case of danger.
  
Around 9:30 p.m., a similar message was sent to the mobile phones of the regions of Barcelones and Maresme (Barcelona).

In Valencia, too, heavy rains have been recorded, especially in the vicinity of the cityof Valencia, which has left 85 litres per square meter in L'Eliana, 70 in half an hour.

These rains have caused problems on the roads and on public transport . In Murcia, classes have been suspended in 15 of the 45 municipalities in the region until 3 p.m.

In Valencia, thematch between Levante UD and Athletic Clu b was scheduled to be played this Wednesday at 9:30 p.m., corresponding to the sixth day of the EA Sports 2026-2027 League, when heavy rain began to fall.
