Around 120 businesses in the Old Town of Bilbao have suffered damage as a result of last Saturday's floods. The Bilbao City Council and the Association of Old Town Traders, Hotel Owners and Businesses have made a provisional balance of those affected.
Workers and members of the City Council have been going from door to door, from shop to shop, inspecting in situ the damage caused by the floods in the premises. They have sent a communication to the establishments located in the affected area detailing the steps to be taken. In addition to the insurance, some must contact the Insurance Compensation Consortium.
"The Consortium must be notified to assign the file number to each case, and for the expert to go. They are doing it very quickly, and once they have the file number, the experts have gone to the stores quite quickly," said Janire Torvisco, director of the association.
It's been a week since Uriola, anda few "A0" outlets have opened their doors to the public. Experts from the Insurance Compensation Consortium have been in the establishments for weeks to quantify the damage and will continue next week.
Torvisco has called on the public to go to the shops in the Old Town. There are lots of them open, and now more than ever, they need the support of the people.
It rained heavily on Saturday, accumulating large amounts of litres per square metre in several municipalities of Bizkaia, with 94.4 litres per square metre in Arrigorriaga, 81.7 l/m2 in Sondika, 75.3 litres per square metre in Bilbao.
