Temporary suspension of the eviction of a Donostiarra family with minors
Saretxe, the Gros Housing Union in Donostia-San Sebastián, has reported that it has succeeded in halting the eviction of a family in the Egia district , which was scheduled to take place the following Monday at 8 a.m., although the family has two children aged eight and ten years who have delayed their departure for two months in order to assess their situation and prepare a vulnerability report.
Saretxe's spokeswoman, Noa Goikoetxea, has explained on Radio Euskadi that the union has managed to "delay eviction for only two months, while analysing the situation." However, she believes that "the news is good and allows Saretxe to negotiate with the owner and continue working to stop the eviction definitively."
The ultimate goal , he said, is for these people "to geta new contract and to be able to stay in the house they are in today. "
The family is made up of six people, parents, two children aged 10 and 8 and grandparents, who had been living in the house for seven years and were due to leave on Monday, "due to two months left unpaid in 2024."
According to the union, the family has a "very low" income. "One of the parents had an accident at work, had surgery, and is still in rehab."
Saretxe explained on Tuesday that "they have been looking for a new rent, but in San Sebastian it is impossible to find anything," so they are asking that this family be given a Certificate of Vulnerability "to activate the defense against evictions under Royal Decree 29/2026 or 'Maricarmen'."
