At least three people have died and about 20 have been injured this Wednesday in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, following the derailment of the funicular of the Glorious Elevator.
The accident took place minutes after 6 p.m. (local time, 5 p.m., Spanish peninsular time) due to a loose cable. The firefighters deployed more than 20 ground vehicles and 62 officers, and the Judicial Police went to investigate the incident, according to RTP.
Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has "deeply" lamented this afternoon's accident.
