Six people killed in a bus attack in Jerusalem
Israeli police say the two "terrorists" involved have been "neutralized" following the attack. Hamas and Islamic Jihad applaud the attack by "two resistance fighters."
Six people have been killed and several injured, seven of them seriously, in an attack on a bus at an access crossing to Jerusalem.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar (from Hungary) said at a press conference that the "terrible terrorist attack" has left six dead and stressed that the country is "at war with radical Islamic terrorism." He also stressed that "Europe and the international community, all countries, must make a clear choice: either they support Israel or they support jihadists."
In a statement posted on the X social network, the Israeli police have claimed that a member of the security forces and an armed civilian "in the area" have "neutralized" the two "terrorists" involved in the attack on the bus. "They are cleaning up the site and gathering evidence."
According to reports from Israeli public radio Kan, the attack was carried out by two armed individuals who got on a bus and started shooting before being shot by themselves.
Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has claimed from the scene of the attack that the country is "in a major war on terrorism on all fronts" and has promised that the security forces will respond to the attack, according to the newspaper 'The Times of Israel'.
In this context, Israeli President Isaac Herzog has stressed that it has been "a painful and difficult morning" and regretted that "innocent civilians, women, men and children have been brutally and brutally wounded by evil and vile terrorists".
The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) has applauded the "heroic operation" carried out by "two Palestinian resistance fighters." "This operation is a natural response to the war of atrocities against the occupation and against our people," he said.
In this regard, the group has warned that the attack is a "clear message." "The plans announced by the Israeli Government to occupy and destroy the city of Gaza and desecrate the Al-Aqsa mosque in the Esplanade of the Mosques will not go unpunished," according to the Palestinian newspaper 'Filastin'.
Likewise, Islamic Jihad praises the "qualitative operation carried out by two resistance fighters" and stresses that it is "a natural response to the rise of the criminal policies of the Israeli organization. We regret the death of those responsible for the operation and praise their heroism. We call on our people in Palestine to step up their response to the crimes of the organization's army."
Israeli Army Chief Eyal Zamir ordered additional troops in the West Bank on Monday following the attack.
