Duane "Keffe D" Davis has been found guilty by a jury of first-degree murder in Las Vegas, Nevada, for planning the 1996 shooting that killed iconic rapper Tupac Shakur.
A popular jury in Nevada, USA, has found Duane "Keffe D" Davis, 63, guilty of the murder of Tupac Shakur, one of the most popular crimes in hip-hop history, arrested in 2023 and the only person charged and tried for the rapper's death.
The defendant will remain in custody and without bail until October 13, when a judge in Nevada issues a verdict, facing maximum life imprisonment.
What happened to Tupac Shakur?
Tupac Shakur was killed on September 13, 1996, at the age of 25, after being shot several times while on board a vehicle in Las Vegas. The attack followed a clash between rapper and Orlando Anderson (Davis' nephew) at the MGM Grand Hotel.
During the trial, Prosecutor Binu Palal said it was Davis, along with Anderson and other members of his team, who organized the attack in retaliation for that fight.
Discussions began on Monday after a nine-day trial and testimony from about 30 witnesses. Shakur's family responded with shock when they heard the verdict, and Davis didn't move.
Evidence for conviction
The prosecution has relied on Duane Davis' statements and memoirs, published under the title "Compton Street Legend", to explain how the attack was planned.
The defense, led by attorney Michael Sanft, tried to discredit the defendant's account on the grounds that the statements are fabricated facts.

Tupac Shakur is one of the most influential artists in rap music history, and in his songs he addressed the social issues and problems of African-American communities in the United States.
The rapper began his career in the world of music in 1991 and achieved great international success with such popular songs as Changes, Old School and So Many Tears , among others.
The verdict against Davis puts an end to nearly three decades of judicial uncertainty, as Davis is the only defendant on trial for the murder of the famous rapper.
