Two officers have been appointed to Sarkozy's prison security by decision of the Ministry of the Interior, Núñez said in an interview with Europe 1 and CNEWS, confirming information published by TF1-LCI on a provision taken together with Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin.
"It is a decision to ensure its security," Núñez has declared , confirming that these two Protection Service (SDLP) agents will be in the cell adjacent to the former president's 24-hour security team.
It specifies that the former Head of State is a beneficiary of a protection system because of its status and threats, which has been maintained during detention.
He added that this protection will be maintained "for as long as necessary".
Sarkozy, the first former president of the French Republic to be imprisoned, spent his first night in prison this Tuesday. He has been sentenced to pre-trial detention and provisional execution in connection with the financing of the2007 election campaign .
