Brussels is preparing a legal report on the impact of suspending the time change
EB's Commissioner for Transport has been in favour of suspending the time change and setting a single timetable. In his words, there is "scientific evidence" that changing the time "harms" citizens.
Thelegal service of the European Union has been studying the practical and legal consequencesof suspending the change of time, with the aim of opening the debate on the matter and relaunching the reform.
In his agreement he has been in favour of repealing the time change that has been in place since the 1970s because of the 'ups and downs' it causes in society and the economy. He has explained that they are preparing a 'detailed' report to analyse all of them and put their conclusions on the table. 'The Europeans want steps and my aim is to move forward.
When there are two days left for the winter time shift — which will take place on Saturday night to Sunday — the conservative politician has argued that advancing or delaying the hour "affects the whole world," and that "most" don't like it. "He has also ensured that there is "scientific evidence" that this change "harms citizens." Among other things, it has a direct impact on the mood and strength of citizens, while at the same time "decreasing productivity."
It recognises that, at present, there is no agreement on the subject between the EU Member States and that 'much work remains to be done'. Along with this, it welcomes the opening of the debate by the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez. Tcyclists says that many countries have already joined the proposal.
In 2018, the European Commission proposed a reform to repeal the time change, at which point each country was given the opportunity to choose between summer and winter, but the initiative did not succeed. It had the support of the European Parliament, but in the absence of an impact study, the reform did not reach a sufficient majority among the Member States to move forward.
