Germany will vote on compulsory military service today, according to which, if necessary, and if there are not enough volunteers, the men to serve may be chosen by lot. The bill was passed by the Council of Ministers in August and has now reached the Bundestag for approval.
According to the draft law themandatory recruitment will be activated if circumstances so require, in which case the selection will be made by zozobra. From 2026, young people over the ageof 18 in Germany will receive a questionnaire in which they will be asked about their abilities and willingness to perform military service.
Those who are interested in voluntary military service in the questionnaire will then be evaluated in order to determine their mental, physical and character. From July 2027, all men born after 2008, whether or not they are interested in the service, will be required to undergo a mandatory medical examination.
The measure is not to the liking of all citizens, and they have organised demonstrations and protests at different points in Germany.
