Venezuela confirms 32 Cuban fighters killed in U.S. attack
The Venezuelan Government has paid tribute to the deceased and Cuba has declared two days of national mourning following the military operation that ended with the kidnapping of Nicolas Maduro.
The Venezuelangovernment has confirmed the death of 32 Cuban fighters in the US military offensive to kidnap President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.
On Sunday night, in a statement released by Venezuelan Chancellor Yvan Gil, the Executive said that the deceased Cubans were carrying out "work of institutional protection and defence" within the framework of cooperation between the two countries and that "they have spent their lives doing their duty".
For his part, the President ofCuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, has confirmed that the dead were linked to the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Ministry of the Interior and the intelligence services.
As a result, Díaz-Canel has declared two days of national mourning since Monday morning and has ordered the Cuban flag to fly at half mast throughout the country.
Both countries have paid tribute to the dead fighters.
