NATO recalls that "the security of an ally and the security of all are inseparable"
The Alliance has highlighted collective defense in the light of US statements about Greenland and the growing strategic interest in the Arctic.
NATO recalled that the security of an ally is "inseparable from the security of all. "Security" is based on collective defense, "it said, and the security of an ally" is inseparable from that of all, "after the US said it was considering the use of force to gain control of Greenland.
"NATO security is based on collective defense. The security of an ally and the security of everyone is inseparable. That applies throughout Europe, the Arctic and the North Atlantic," allied sources told EFE after being questioned, but not in an official statement.
The organization recognizes that the Arctic is an area of "increasing strategic importance" and, in this regard, NATO's "clear interest in maintaining security and stability in the region".
In response to the latest threats from the Trump administration, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has said that he takes the Republican's intentions seriously and has warned that "if a NATO country attacks another NATO country, it will all be over, including our NATO, and consequently the security it has provided since the end of World War II would also end."
Asked about these statements, the Alliance has not offered EFE any comment on the words of the Danish president.
Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, the United Kingdom and Denmark have defended the sovereignty of Greenland in a joint declaration, which states that security in the Arctic is a 'priority' for Europe.
