The situation has worsened in Ituri
The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned of the seriousness of the situation. The outbreak is mainly centered in Ituri province in the north of the country. Militia attacks have forced the displacement of the population and significantly hampered the work of health personnel.
WHO warned last weekend thatthe outbreak is "intensifying," that there is permanent transmission, and that the number of confirmed cases and deaths is steadily increasing. The organization's Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus , called on Thursday to strengthen the response to Ebola "urgently and massively."
It's spread across five provinces.
According to the Congolese Institute of Public Health, the virus continues in five provinces: Alto Uélé, Ituri, North Kivu, South Kivu and Tshopo.
A total of 51 health areas are affected by the virus, and health workers face serious difficulties in curbing the spread of the disease due to the security situation in several affected areas.
