A7.4 magnitude earthquake has shaken much of Colombia, according to the Colombian Geological Service (SGC), at 7:34 local time (14:34 in Euskal Herria) on Monday, with epicenter in San José del Palmar , in the department of Choco.
It was 82 kilometers deep in the Pacific coastal city.
The earthquake has been felt in Bogotá, Cali, Popayan, Manizales, Armenia, Pereira, Medellín and other cities in the centre and west of the country.
So far, some of them have suffered material damage, and in Cali and Manizales, the damage has been visible on all facades, including the cathedral tower.
"Many buildings are cracked," the mayor of Cali, Alejandro Eder , told Blu Radio.
In Pereira, the capital of the department of Risaralda, many buildings have suffered significant structural damage, including at the airport, and some buildings have partially collapsed.
For his part, themayor of Bogotá, Carlos Fernando Galán , has stated that at the moment "there is no record of structural damage, only some cracks in buildings".
