Oil surpasses $111 after an oil field attack in Saudi Arabia
The price of Brent oil, a benchmark in Europe, has risen 2.3% before the opening of European stock exchanges to more than $111.2 a barrel. The price increase is due to attacks by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard on a Saudi Aramco oil field and oil tankers in the Persian Gulf.
On the other hand, the benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) rose 2.1% in Europe before the stock market opened to $99.1 a barrel.
The attack by the Houthi insurgency in Yemen on the Saudi oil field in Shaybah has killed at least two people and injured two others.
For weeks now, the Houthi have been targeting oil fields in Saudi Arabia as targets of attacks on Saudi Arabia's government, an ally of the Yemeni government in its war against insurgents.
Attacks in the Persian Gulf
On the other hand, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard of Iran has announced the "simultaneous capture" of four ships that it has captured "transferring shipments of oil" into the Persian Gulf after learning that they had travelled the routes of the Strait of Hormuz declared illegal by Tehran.
"All four ships were captured and set on fire at the same time, "the Army said in a statement.
The military also added that during the night, "three other vessels have violated Tehran's rules bycolliding with minesin the western Strait of Hormuz and have been arrested. "
"The insistence of the proud American regime to encourage ships to travel along a mined road causes a daily increasein maritime unrest, "the Revolutionary Guard said.
He alsoissued a warning : "The U.S. Offensive Army must know that, if this trend continues, the scope of the confrontation will extend to its military bases as well. "
