Richard Linklater's new film opens the Nouvelles Vagues Biarritz festival
The coastal town of Lapurdi today begins its six-day festival, which includes Linklater himself, Keira Knightley and Sofia Coppola, the guest of honor of this third edition.
"Nouvelle vague", the new film by Texan director Richard Linklater (Boyhood, After trilogy...), opens this afternoon, Tuesday, the Le Théâtre de la Gare du Midin Biarritz Film Festival, Nouvelles Vagues.
The director himself will be present at the screening, together with the actors Guillaume Marbeck, Aubry Dullin and Paolo Luka Noé, and "À bout de soufflé" (Jean-Luc Godard, 1959), the fictional work that shows the production and filming of the pioneering film of the French film movement Nouvelle Vague, will be seen with the Basque public by Linklater.
In addition, the festival will present eight international films in the Official Section, as well as twenty other works by young filmmakers, including the award-winning Basque film by Sara Fantova in some Jone (29 June, 14:30, Special Sessions, in Royal Hall 1), which has the participation of EITB.
Programming director Lili Hinstein highlights the shadow of youth at the Nouvelles Vagues festival: "Nouvelles Vagues' DNA is youth. That youth is jury, selection committee, in a new award and in the eyes of the young people of the films we choose."
The festival, sponsored by Biarritz City Council and the fashion house Chanel, will also be attended by Sofia Coppola, the guest of honor of the third edition. On June 25, at 11:00, she will present the film "The Virgin Suicides", which has just turned 25, and will answer the public's questions.
British actress Keira Knigthley will also be in Biarritz on June 28 at the Le Royal Cinema presenting a screening of "Rebel without a cause" (Nicholas Ray). On Thursday, at 22:00, the show "The Truman" will be shown on the beach.
