'The voice of Hind Rajab 'has left the Festival breathing
The film directed by Kaouther Ben Hania has deeply impressed the public. The film focuses on the real call to the Red Moon made by a six-year-old girl trapped inside a car between bullets and bombs in Gaza.
Last night, Tuesday, the Voice of Hind Rajab Kaouther, directed by Ben Hania, was presented at the San Sebastian Film Festival, within the Pearls section, which was the first of five screenings at the festival.
The film, which uses the actual audio of the call made by the girl Hind Rajab, is based in Tel Al Hawa, a neighborhood that the Israeli Army ordered evacuated on January 29, 2024. The film alternates fiction with the videos that volunteers recorded that day.
While waiting for permission to carry out the rescue work, the volunteers endeavoured not to lose contact with Hind Rajab so that the telephone call would not be interrupted, and they constantly asked him to explain how he was, who he was with and what had happened.
Hind Rajab pleads several times for him to go and fetch him, says he's alone and afraid of darkness, explains that he's trapped in the car he was driving with his uncles and four cousins, and adds that, when they were all dead, the people around him are "asleep."
After twelve days, the army of Israel abandoned the zone, and permitió rescatar the wounds and failures. It was in that moment, when he found the bodies of Hind among his firstfruits and tíos in a vehicle with 355 bullets to his heirs.
Within 12 days of that day, the Israeli Army left the area, and the volunteers were able to reach the wounded and the dead. Hind's body was found there, along with the bodies of his relatives, in a vehicle with 355 bullet holes in the vicinity.Hind Rajab's mother appears in the film in her authoritative work, and that her daughter loved the sea and wanted to end the war, "then go back to play sand again."
The film was released at the Venice festival, and some of the producers are Brad Pitt, Joaquin Phoenix, Rooney Mara, Jonathan Glazer and Alfonso Cuarón.
After this afternoon's screening, at 6:30 p.m., a demonstration for Palestine will be held in San Sebastian from Okendo Square.
