"The Domingos" has achieved glory by winning the Golden Shell
The Domingos, an X-ray of our times built on the fascination of a 17-year-old girl with nun life, has won the Golden Shell of the 73rd edition of the San Sebastian Film Festival.
The Baracaldés filmmaker Alauda Ruiz de Azua has received, tonight at the closing gala of this edition in the Kursaal, the highest award of the official jury this year led by the Catalan filmmaker J.A. Bayona. The medals, with the participation of EITB, are the second feature film written and directed by the author of the short series Querer , after the award-winning film Cinco lobitos .
The Domingos tell the story of Ainara, the film that has also won the Irizar Prize for Basque Cinema. Ainara is an idealistic and extraordinary 17-year-old girl who, by surprise, reveals that she feels closer and closer to God and that she is considering introducing the closing nun.
The jury has also made special mention ofthefilm Histories of the Good Valley by Jose Luis Guerin who, in Bayona's words, "looks at faces and landscapes that are rarely filmed."
Jose Ramon Soroiz, foaming with joy
For veteran legorreta actor Jose Ramon Soroiz the Silver Shell has been for the best performance, ex aequo with Chinese actor Zhao Xiaohong. Outside the official section, according to the jury's ruling, the best film in the Kutxabank New Directors section has been the Danish Weightless (Emilie Thalund), the Latin Horizons poet Un (Simón Mesa Soto) and the Zabaltegi Tabakalera section La tour de glace (Lucile Hadzihalilovic).
