Begoña Gómez, the wife of the President of the Government, handed over her passport this afternoonincourt. Judge J uan Carlos Peinado has decided to withdraw it as a precautionary measure, as he will try her before a popular jury for four crimes, including corruption in business.
This was the sixth time that Gómez went to the courts in Madrid afterlast Saturday the judge decided on the precautionary measures requested by the popular accusations directed by Hazte Oir: the withdrawal of the passport, the prohibition of leaving the state and the fortnightly appearance in court.
He also imposed these measures on his adviser, Cristina Álvarez, who issued her passport on Tuesday. The defenses have appealed to the Madrid Provincial High Court for considering them disproportionate and totally ruling out the risk of escape.
