The President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has been embroiled in another controversy over the management of public hospitals, this time accused of manipulating waiting lists at the Ramón y Cajal Hospital.
The information, published by the newspaper El País, states that the information on some patients on the waiting list for surgery was modified through the computer system, in particular, their level of severity was lowered, thus adjusting the order of the list.
The news, which cites internal hospital documents as a source, states that the reported incidents occurred between 28 February and 14 March 2025; 57 patients on the waiting list for Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology ceased to be a priority; thus, the maximum time limit for surgery went from 90 to 180.
According to the information released, the lists were manipulated through the computer system, regardless of the surgeons' opinion.
The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Community of Madrid has denied the complaint and has ensured that the management of waiting steaks is the responsibility of the "care services" and not the management of the hospital.
He also adds that the order of waiting lists is decided on the basis of "clinical criteria" and that the "operating committee" deals with the matter on a weekly basis.
