The PNV in Hondarribia has condemned the painting against the Security Adviser, Bingen Zupiria, which appeared in the Guipuzcoana town following the death of the Senegalese citizen Babacar Welle.
Welle died last Monday after being shot by a local police officer who, according to police reports, was trying to attack a Ertzaintza officer with a knife.
The PNV has claimed on social media that "anyone who resorts to insult and contempt loses all credibility." It has also recognized that Hondarribia is living "difficult days."
"What has happened has caused pain and astonishment in our country," said the party, which has also conveyed its solidarity and closeness to those who are experiencing the situation closely.
"Respect, tranquillity and coexistence"
The PNV stresses that such a "tragic" event cannot overlook respect and coexistence, and warns that messages of hatred and fear can bring back "past times of social tension."
"Division and confrontation only fuel hatred, no matter where it comes from," he said, so he called for "respect, tranquillity and coexistence" in Hondarribia.
