The municipalities of Treviño eta Arganzóngo , which make up the Enclave of Treviño, approved on Thursday the request to the Council of Ministers for authorization for a popular consultation on the integration of the territory into Álava .

Specifically, the initiative has been spearheaded bythe Treviño Enclave Integration Bureau in Álava  and discussed in two extraordinary plenums after the platform formally asked both municipalities to vote on the motion.

The text asked the councillors whether they considered it appropriate for the plenums of the municipalities to request the segregation of theenclave of the Autonomous Community of Castile and Leon for inclusion in the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country(CAV).

In Treviño County, the motion received seven votes in favour, corresponding to the Treviño Day Councillors (TDDs), the Treviño County Independent Group, the PNV and EH Bildu, while the PP councillors voted against.

The mayor of Treviño, Adolfo Estavillo, has opted for dialogue and has called for the Enclave of Reviño not to be used for partisan purposes, nor for debate to serve to "divide" citizens.

The municipal corporationof La Puebla de Arganzón, representatives of the PNV and EH Bildu have unanimously supported the proposal.

In this context, thespokeswoman for the Bureau for the Integration of the Enclave of Treviño in Álava, Arantxa Yarza , has expressed satisfaction with the results and believes that "a great step has already been taken". Yarza has stressed that acceptance allows to give voice to the neighbours of the Enclave of Treviño who want to have the opportunity to decide on their future.

With the approval of both municipalities, the initiative has received institutional support from both municipalities and proposes to advance the request for permission for the Council of Ministers to consult the public on a possible possibility of integration into Álava.

Treviño's neighbors live 15 kilometers from Vitoria-Gasteiz, but they depend on Burgos, a border that makes their daily lives difficult, for example, in healthcare.
