The UPV/EHU has issued a note after suspending a lecture scheduled for last Wednesday at the Degree in Criminology of the Faculty of Law of Gipuzkoa. According to the rectoral team, the decision to suspend the session was not due to pressures from the students, but to the agents who were going to give the talk, who refused to do so after detecting messages on social networks encouraging the boycott.
The statement emphasizes that the teacher in charge of the lecture "has not received any complaints" and, on the contrary, the graduate students disagree with the suspension and are willing to discuss the matter.
The UPV considers it "unacceptable to violate or hinder the right to education and education" and recalls that the participation of professionals in the university sphere is essential to ensure the quality of education of students.
In the light of reports published in various media, the Rectoral Team hascalled for the "rigorous dissemination of information" and reiterated that "it is not true that the students of Criminology demanded the suspension of the session", and the responsible professor has been prepared to provide the Department of Safety and Security with all necessary information.
Finally, the university reaffirms its commitment to a "free, respectful, and knowledge-based academic space," while stressing the need to "combat disinformation."
