Pensioners don't want to be a bargaining chip
Convened by the Euskal Herria Pensioners' Movement, thousands of people have demonstrated in Bilbao and Donostia-San Sebastián. The group has again demanded that minimum pensions be equated with the minimum inter-professional wage, especially so that women pensioners "live in dignity and reach the end of the month".
Pensioners have demonstrated today, Saturday, in Bilbao and Donostia-San Sebastián to demandthat they not play with pensions , considering that they are used in Congress "as a bargaining chip", and have also called for an automatic revaluation of pensions in both protests.
Convenedby the Euskal Herria Pensioners' Movement , more than 500 people have gathered in the Byzantine capital to demonstrate at 5.30 p.m. from Moyua Square and across the Gran Vía de Bilbao.
They have made their way behind a big banner preceded by txistularis and accompanied by the motto "Don't play with pensions". To the usual cries, they have joined the message "Revaluing the pension is an obligation."
In this sense, the Basque pensioners have shown themselvestobe very angry , arguing that for the second year running they have been used by politicians "as a bargaining chip." In fact, on January 27, thanks to the majority of the PP, Vox and Junts, they repealed the decree law to increase the value of pensions by 2026.
"We want them not to play with our pensions and to increase their value year after year , "said spokeswoman Andrea Uña.
The group has also reiterated its call for minimum pensions to be equated with the minimum wage , especially for women pensioners to "live in dignity and be able to reach the end of the month".
Finally, they warn that they will continue to "fight for a just proclamation" until they get "public and decent pensions."
The demonstration took place at noon in Donostia-San Sebastián and will take place in Vitoria-Gasteiz and Pamplona on Monday.
Next Thursday, 26 February, the plenary of Congress will vote again on the pension decree.
