The Ertzaintza has arrested a man accused of an alleged offence against sexual freedom after assaulting a woman on the street in Azkoitia . The aggressor fled on a bicycle and was interceptedshortly afterwards by two witnesses who followed him with their vehicles, according to the Basque Government's Security Department.
A few minutes before 11 p.m. this Wednesday, the victim, a 49-year-old woman, was walking along road GI-631 off Azkoitia. The attacker was riding a bicycle and was wearing a balaclava. He stopped next to the victim and threw her to the ground with the intention of sexually assaulting her.
The victim has been able to scream and ask for help, and several people who were in the vicinity have immediately come to the scene. The aggressor has fled by bicycle and two witnesses have followed him in private vehicles until he has been hit near the Loiola Basilica. He has been held until the arrival of the Ertzaintza, who has been arrested on charges of an alleged offence against sexual freedom.
The 60-year-old detainee has been transferred to police stations where he will remain until he is taken to court, while the victim has been taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries.
On the other hand, in protest at what happened, Itaia called for a rally today, at 7.30 p.m. in Azkoitia Square. Through the mobilization, which will take place under the slogan "Resist male aggression", they have condemned male aggression and called for a collective response to this violence.
