Classics The festival section will redeem El Desencanto and Ander and Yul
The festival will feature feature films by Milos Forman, Pere Portabella, Jacques Tati, Fernando Trueba, Agnes Varda and José Giovanni, and the festival will award the best music for the first time.
El desencanto(Jaime Dovarri, 1976), the film that its leaders withdrew 50 years ago from the programming of the San Sebastián Film Festival, will open the Classics section of the 74 edition of the San Sebastian Film Festival.
The programme of the series, which will also include works by Lisa Cholodenko, Ana Díez, Milos Forman, Pere Portabella, Jacques Tati, Fernando Trueba, Andrzej Vajda and Agnès Varda, was announced today in Tabakalera by the directors of the San Sebastián Film Festival, José Luis Rebordinos, and the Basque Filmoteca, Joxean Fernández.
Classics has three legs: the same section of the Festival, a retrospective classic — dedicated this year to the director and screenwriter José Giovanni — and the cycle, a programme of eleven films that will be shown between October and December in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Pamplona, San Sebastián, Bilbao and San Juan de Luz.
The Classics section will be opened by Jaime Dovarri's film El desencanto (1976), which did not finally compete in the 24th edition of the San Sebastian Film Festival because those responsible for the film removed it from its programming in protest at the murder of protester Josu Zabala by the Civil Guard.
Until 27 September, there will be an exhibition on the film in Tabakalera.
In addition, a restored version of Ander and Yul Ana Díez's film will be shown. The 1988 film has been repaired and updated by the Basque Film Library and EITB.
BASQUE CINEMA
EITB and the Basque Film Library restore the film "Ander eta Yul"
The film "Ander eta Yul" (1988), by Navarre director Ana Diez, has been restored by the Basque Film Library and EITB, analyzed and manually repaired in the laboratories L'immagine Ritrovata, dependent on the Cinemateca de Bologna, as previously done, among others, with the film "Tasio".
Finally, 20 feature films released between 1960 and 2001 will complete the retrospective exhibition dedicated to French filmmaker, screenwriter and novelist Jose Giovanni.
SGAE Award
In addition, this year the San Sebastian Film Festival will award the award for the best music for the first time , sponsored by the Spanish General Society of Authors and Publishers (SGAE).
The award will be decided by an international jury, as reported by the SGAE Foundation and the Film Festival in a statement, consisting of "three leading professionals in the fields of musical creation, audiovisual, film or culture in general".
The award will be presented at the closing ceremony on September 26, along with the rest of the Official Section awards. In this 74th edition, seventeen films will compete in the Official Section.
