Basque cinema celebrates its grand gala on 22 September at the Zinemaldia and by EITB

As the Zinemaldia knocks on the door, director José Luis Rebordinos and EITBCEO Andoni Aldekoa have strengthened their partnership agreement on Monday, giving new impetus to the Grand Basque Film Gala, which will take place on September 22 attheVictoria Eugenia Theatre, will be presented by Mira Gaztañaga and Ane Gabarain and will be broadcast live by ETB.

Previously, all Basque film actors will take the carpet for an hour, a moment that will also be broadcast live on these channels. 

This year, EITB will awardthe New Authors Award to donostiarra Alberto Gastes for his film career marked by curiosity, creative concerns and a constant desire to explore new audiovisual fields. 

In addition, Award for Best Screenwriter of the Basque Country + SGAE will be awarded to Alauda Ruiz de Azua for her role in the feature film Los domingos , winner of the Golden Shell at the 2025 Festival. 

Likewise, Los domingos will receive this year's EZAE Prize , a prize that highlights the Basque production that has brought the most audiences to the cinemas. 

For the first time, the Basque Film Library will present its historic award at the Grand Gala of Basque Cinema, which will be awarded to Navarre director Ana Díez , following the restoration of Ander and Yul (Ana Diez, 1989) by the Basque cinemateca and EITB, under the auspices of the Basque Government.

TheEAB Brilliance Award will be awarded to Aitziber Garmendia, whose Union of Basque Actors has highlighted not only the excellence of his work in recent years, but also his solid career built with rigour, talent and commitment to interpretation.

Finally, the Zinemira Prize awarded by the Festival and EPE IBAIA (Association of Independent Basque Audiovisual Producers) will be awarded to José Ramón Soroiz, who will be recognized for his excellent professional career of more than four decades and for his vital contribution to the development and consolidation of Basque cinema.
