The year-on-year CPI drops to 2.4% in the ACV and 2% in Navarre in May
Prices continue to rise in the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV) and Navarre, although the increase has moderated slightly in the last month. The annual rate of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in the ACV has fallen in May to 2.4% and in Navarre to 2%, according to the final data released today by the National Institute of Statistics.
The year-on-year ratehas fallen by two tenths in the Basque Country, from 2.6% to 2.4%, and by three points in Navarre, from 2.5% to 2%. The fall in prices is mainly due to the lower prices of tourism packages and the lower increase in electricity than in the same month last year.
From April to May, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose two-tenths in the ACV and fell one-tenth in Navarre.
So far this year, prices have risen 1.5% in the ACV and 1.1% in Navarre.
In Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa, year-on-year inflation stood at 2.4 per cent in May, while in the last month prices have risen by 0.1 per cent in Álava and Gipuzkoa and 0.3 per cent in Bizkaia compared to April.
Food and beverages have increased by 2.9% on average in May compared to the same month of the previous year (seven tenths less than in April), while food prices in Navarre are 3.1% more expensive than in the same month last year (three tenths lower than in April).
In the Spanish State, the annual rate has remained at 2%, falling by two tenths since April, and is also the lowest since October last year, when it stood at 1.8%.
On the other hand, underlying inflation (which does not include energy or fresh food) has moderated by two tenths in May, to 2.2%, above the average inflation rate in Spain.
