The Government approves the broad outlines of the 2027 budget, with growth projected at 1.6 per cent
The Finance and Finance Adviser, Nöel d'Anjou, has explained that the priority will be to strengthen basic public services, health, education, housing, security and social services.
The Basque Government has set out the broad outlines of the 2027 budgets, with 1.6%GDP growth % lower than this year's forecast. The instability caused by the conflict in the Middle East and the global slowdown in economic activity would be behind it.
In this context, the Government of Vitoria-Gasteiz has drawn up the main headings of the accounts, and today the Governing Council has approved what will be the basis of the draft budget, which envisages, among other things, an increase in employment of 0.7% and an unemployment rate of 6.2%, which means creating jobs but at a lower rate.
The Minister of Finance and Finance of the Basque Government, Nöel d'Anjou, presented the main lines of action at the press conference following the weekly meeting. He said that they would design "ambitious and prudent budgets, protecting citizens from the risks" posed by the complex international situation.
According to the Councillor, they expect to have more money than last year, but to confirm this, they have to wait for "the collection data." In any case, he has admitted that in 2027 there will be no extra items for investments. Last year, almost EUR 1 billion was earmarked for the Basque Financial Alliance.
Public services
D'Anjou has ensured that basic public services will be placed at the centre, with health , education, housing, security and social services as the main axes, and the design of budgets to ensure their quality, accessibility and viability.
The quality of employment, innovation, digitisation and internationalisation will also be enhanced. As in previous years, the objectives include promoting the productive fabric and inclusive economic growth.
Investments for the energy transition will also play a key role in the draft budget.
Processing
Once the broad outlines have been approved, the next steps will be the preparation of a first draft budget for September, with input from the Basque Finance Council, and the approval of the draft by the Governing Council in October and its referral to the Basque Parliament for processing.
D'Anjou has previously offered to listen to the contributions of opposition parties, but has also issued a warning: "They must have serious contributions," he added.
