The construction of the future campus of the Basque Country Technology Park has begun in Zorrotzaurre: the first building will house Idom and Mondragon
A number of technologically advanced companies are planned on the Bilbao Campus. The first building will be located at the site of the old Tarabusi pavilion on Galletaginen Avenue.
The Bilbao Campus of the Basque Country Technology Park, located on Zorrotzaurre Island, has become a reality since this Monday the works of what will be the first building , where Idom, with an investment of about 50 million, and the Mondragon Corporation , with a project with a budget of more than 20 million in which Mondragon Unibertsitatea, Ikerlan and Vicomtech, among others, will be installed.

The Bilbao City Council, the Provincial Council ofBizkaia and the Basque Government have been working for years to make Zorrotzaurre an "island of knowledge, technology, innovation and advanced industry" through the Basque Country Technology Park and the new Bilbao Campus.
In addition to launching the Zorrotzaurre project, the six campuses located in Zamudio/Derio, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Donostia-San Sebastián, Leioa, Hernani and Abantowill be launched, and the Basque Country Technology Park will strengthen its commitment to the multicampus model.
This first building is located at the site of the old Tarabusi pavilion on Galletaginen Avenueand will house the facilities of the Technology Park and the technologically advanced companies .
In particular, this first action will increase the building capacity of 46,000 m2for tertiary use, divided into four plots of the North Point, two of which had a pre-existing building and the other two were empty.
In addition, work is under way on the development of another 60,000 m2 in the South Tip ofthe island, oriented to the advanced services sector . Several companies are planned to be established on the Bilbao Campus, and on Monday it was reported that Idom and the Mondragon Corporation will have a presence on this urban campus.
One of these projects will be the Idom Science Factory/Zientziola , which will be located on the RZ-7 plot in Zorrozaurre, very close to the company's headquarters.
With this project, which envisages an investment of around EUR 50 million, according to final data, Idom aims to boost the design and supply of complex engineering systems for Science and Technology in areas such as astronomy, particle and nuclear physics, space and renewable energies .
On the other hand, Bilbao Bizkaia Digital Faktory is the bet of the Mondragon Corporation for Zorrotzaurre. The project involves an investment of more than 20 million euros and will allow the development of a space for the attraction of talent and high added value companies in digital technologies: artificial intelligence, data analytics, cybersecurity, digital humanities, mechatronics, robotics and intelligent energy systems, among others.
Located on the RZ-10 plot, the new building complex will replace the old Consonni and Lancor buildings with two new 7,526 m2 and 4,281 m2 respectively.
In the larger building, activities will be carried out by Mondragon Unibertsitatea and Ikerlan, and in the smaller ones by the Basque Country Technology Park, Vicomtech.
