The Basque Country and Navarre are the second and third communities with the highest labour costs
Spain's annual gross salary rose by 3.8% in 2024, to 27,558 euros.
The gross annual wage per worker reached €27,558.68 in 2024, an increase of 3.8 per cent over the previous year, and stood at its highest level since 2008, according to the results of the Annual Labour Cost Survey published by the National Institute of Statistics.
The gross labour cost in Spain rose by 3.85% to EUR 37,545. The Basque Country and Navarre are two of the Autonomous Communities with the highest labour cost.
The community with the highest net labour cost is Madrid, with 44,458.06 euros in 2024, followed by the Basque Country with 40,459.12 euros per worker per year, the lowest being Extremadura (30,542.37 euros), the Canary Islands (31,077.73 euros) and Andalusia (32,664.18 euros).
The hotel and catering industry has the lowest wages and the highest energy. The labour cost per employee was 23,138.9 euros gross per year in the hotel and 82,147.9 euros in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning.
With regard to the variation in labour costs, compared to 2023, the largest increases were in Extremadura, Murcia and Galicia, while in the Basque Country, Andalusia and the Canary Islands the increase was lower.
