The Basque Parliament has rejected the People's Legislative Initiative, which has collected 145,000 signatures, with the votes against PNV, PSE-EE and Vox, the abstention of the PP and the support of EH Bildu and Elkarrekin Podemos.
As was foreseeable after the contrary view expressed by the Imanol Pradales Government, PNV and PSE-EE voted against taking the initiative into consideration. Vox also voted against and the PP abstained.
This People's Legislative Initiative, which came to the Chamber with the Basque Pensioners' Movement and issupported by the signatures of the 145,000 Basque citizens , has been the starting point of the debate by its spokesperson, Ana Mezo, who has expressed the "disappointment, surprise and indignation" of the collective.
Before the vote and before the groups express their views, he has addressed the Socialists to warn them that 'they are refusing to discuss the word at home'.
For their part, PNV and PSE-EE have appealed to the public pension system and insisted thatthe proposal is not legally or economically feasible.
The rejected text calls for the creation of a Basque pension supplement system to ensure that all pensioners over 60 years of age residing and registered in the Basque Country have a minimum income equivalent to 100% of the minimum balance.
