Hondarribia gardeners start an indefinite strike
Eight gardeners subcontracted by the Hondarribia City Council have started an indefinite strike due to the refusal of the Hondarribia Gardening subcontract to apply the agreement.
The ELA union has explained that, after months of strike in 2023, the workers managed to reach an agreement to end the strike in August 2023 and then, in July 2024, it materialized in a collective agreement that "was registered and published more than a year ago."
Thus, it states that these conditions were reflected in the documents published by the City Council for the new award to the Hondarribia Gardening company, but the company "does not wish to apply the agreement".
Faced with this "unsustainable" situation, gardeners have decided to exercise their right to strike to demand "effective" compliance with the collective agreement and to demand "respect" for their labour rights.
To show their demand, workers have called rallies on 17, 20, 21, 22 and 23 October at 11 a.m. in front of the Hondarribiarra Town Hall, and on Friday 24 a caravan of cars will be held along the streets of the town.
