The housing department will build two more floors in 65 public blocks to get two thousand more homes
The Department of Housing and Urban Agenda is working on six pilot projects, representing 10 per cent of the total planned plan.
The Basque Government will triple the current rental accommodation park andbuild two floors on 65 existing public buildings, that is, it will add two floors on the current roofs.
This has been announced in the Basque Parliament by the Housingand Urban Agenda Adviser, Denis Itxaso , who has explained that this initiative will make it possible to create 2,000 new housing units in 65 buildings, without land use and without the need to change urban planning.
It is a measure to respond quickly to the growing demand for public rental housing.
"These residential units, being considered dotational equipment, do not increase urban building and can therefore be carried out without the need to modify the general planning," he explains.
The new regulation provides for the possibility of such collections being carried out through a detailed study, the processing of which is easier than the approval of a special plan, as currently required, Itxaso said.
The Department's technical analysis confirms the feasibility of adding new structural floors to most flat deck buildings in the public rental park.
"In most cases, about two floors can be added without major problems," said the counsellor, who stressed that this could allow 2,000 new homes to be built in 65 buildings and almost triple the current park, with 937 residential units used and 253 built.
The Department of Housing and Urban Agenda is working on six pilot projects , which is 10% of the total planned plan.
