The Government of the Generalitat has reached an agreement with the livestock sector to begin transporting to the slaughterhouse 30,000 healthy pigs from livestock located on the surveillance perimeter of the African swine epidemic (PPA), whose meat will be used for domestic consumption.
The agreement was reached at an emergency meeting held on Friday afternoon by the Govern with the pig sector, sources from the Catalan Association of Young Farmers and Livestock (JARC) have explained.
The meeting was attended by the Presidential Adviser, Albert Dalmau, the Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food Adviser, Oscar Ordeig, and the Research and Universities Counsellor, Nuria Montserrat.
Asaja's Secretary General, Francesc Salva, has explained that they believe the measure will serve to "reassure the sector" and has clarified that these are healthy pigs suitable for consumption.
