The ELA union has accused the management of Sidenor of "dismantling" its plant in Azkoitia (Gipuzkoa) by firing 28 people through a "transfer procedure to Reinosa (Cantabria)".
ELA also denounces that the company is "completely blocked" from negotiating the agreement: "While they make profits, the workforce is getting smaller and poorer."
In this regard, he recalled that Sidenor makes' million-dollar profits' of EUR 14 million in 2024 and EUR 6.8 million in 2025, all along with the million-dollar subsidies he receives.
Meanwhile, the Azkoitia workforce has been experiencing job insecurity over the past 10 years, with temporary employment regulations, a loss of purchasing power of more than 20% and the destruction of more than 150 jobs since 2024.
ELA recalls that the works council has met several times with representatives of the Basque Government, the Provincial Council and the City of Azkoitia, who have been asked for "real commitments" to curb the precariousness of Sidenor.
