Bizkaia drivers will pay a maximum of EUR 35 per month for tolls in the territory
It will update the Bidesari programme which sets the monthly cost limit of the toll by applying a reduction of EUR 5 for those who pass through the territory; those who leave Bizkaia and continue to Álava and Gipuzkoa will pay a maximum of EUR 53.
The Provincial Councilof Bizkaia has prepared a new Foral Decree on the chargingof the highways of the territory with the updating of the Bidesaria programme, which sets monthly spending limits for Biscayan drivers travelling both in Bizkaia and on the toll roads of the other Basque territories (AP-68, AP-8, AP-1, VSM and Artxanda tunnels).
The decree will enter into force on 1 January 2027 and the main novelty will be that the maximum amounts will be reduced by 5 euros, so that a limit of 35 euros per month will be set for travel only in Bizkaia and those who start their journey in Bizkaia and stay in Gipuzkoa (from the AP-8) or Álava (from the AP-68) will pay a maximum of 53 euros .
In addition, payments for travel in other Basque territories shall be computed on a cumulative basis, with a maximum limit of EUR 88 (previously EUR 194.30). Once this amount has been reached, travel thereafter shall be free in the three territories, up to a maximum of 150 trips per month.
The Foral MP for Infrastructure, Carlos Alzaga, has stressed that, instead of updating the toll programme by applying an increase in the CPI, the organisation will make an effort to alleviate the expenditure of regular road users, which currently employs around 29,000 drivers and to which the Council allocates EUR 11 million annually.
Incorporation of the AP-68 motorway into the model
At the same time, the Council is working on a Foral Decree regulating the AP-68 toll, since from 11 November the Council will take over the management of the Bizkaia section of this road, so that from that date until 1 January 2027 an average 20% reduction will be applied for both light and heavy vehicles.
From that date, this route will also be regulated by the Foral Toll Decree 2027, which will apply to all toll routes in Bizkaia.
