ELA, LAB and ESK report that Mercedes-Benz's attitude to high temperatures endangers workers' health
Trade unions have called for a protocol for high temperatures, criticizing that the company "does not take sufficient precautions" to ensure adequate environmental conditions for people during heat alert days.

Mercedes-Benzhas denounced thatMercedes-Benz\u00A0does not take "sufficient measures"to cope with high temperatures at its workplace in Vitoria-Gasteiz ELA, LAB and ESK on Thursday morning, accusing the company of "seriously endangering the health of workers", and urging the management to "ensure adequate environmental conditions" for people.
Representatives of the three unions have concentrated at the gates of the Vitoria-Gasteiz plant under the slogan 'We are burned'. They have explained that, according to the current regulations, all jobs in the factory are light and there is no difference between them, so the current regulation "falls far short of the real situation of the workers".
In this regard, they point out that Mercedes Vitoria does not have "a protocol of action for heat alert days for any of its catalogues" (yellow, orange or red). They point out that the committee made a proposal in 2024tonegotiate a protocol with the company and "the company refused to negotiate." Mercedes currently "continues to refuse to negotiate a protocol" for high temperatures.
Faced with this situation, in recent weeks the unions ELA, LAB and ESK have fileda number of complaints, including a request to stop the activity, although they have criticized that "for the time being the inspection has not asked the company to take action".
They have also explained that during the weeks in which both the orange alert and the red alarm have been recorded, there have been dizziness due to the heat shock, and that an ambulance from Osakidetza has also come to the scene because of the seriousness of one of the cases. "There is no unified protocol for the whole plant and each sector applies what it wants without giving guarantees to the staff."
That is why ELA, LAB and ESK have asked the company to immediately resume negotiating the previous protocol presented by the committee.
