Petrol and diesel prices will rise by more than six cents per litre from this Friday, August 1. According to the petrol station manager, the increase will be due to the increase in the Special Tax on Hydrocarbons (HZB).
The Spanish Confederation of Service Station Entrepreneurs (CEEES) has explained that the increase is due to the entry into force of a new tranche of the tax planned for August. Practica, the amendment of the Special Tax on Hydrocarbons will increase fuels by five cents per litre.
Four weeks in a row of rising prices
The price of petrol and diesel has risen by more than 15 % since the 10% reduced VAT was abolished in early July.
According to the latest data, the average price of petrol is EUR 1.644 per litre and that of diesel is EUR 1.722, with an increase of more than 6% in one week.
Filling the tank, getting more expensive
At current prices, filling the average 55 litre petrol tank costs EUR 90.42, EUR 8.5 more than a year ago, while filling the average diesel tank costs EUR 94.71, almost EUR 16 more than last year.
However, the prices of both fuels are still far from the historic highs recorded in the summer of 2022, although the increase in recent weeks has coincided with one of the most mobile times of the year.
