The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has detected another blue-tongue focus on a sheep farm in Irun(Gipuzkoa).
The mandatory notification of this animal disease in the Spanish State isdated 20 August and corresponds to serotype 3.
Bluetongue is a viral disease of the Reoviridae family that affects both domestic and wild ruminants and is transmitted by the sting of certain species of mosquitoes in the genus Culicoides.
This is the third confirmed case in Hego EuskalHerria, following those detected in one sheep farm in Barrundia (Álava) andanother in Orbaizeta (Navarre).
