The Peruvian restaurant Maido has been named the best in the world at the 2025 The World's 50 Best Restaurants Awards and the Algerian Mohamed Benabdallah of the Etxebarri grill has been named the best sumiller in the world.

The list of the top 50 restaurants in the world has been released at an event in Turin, Italy.
The Arginzoniz grill is located in Axpe, in the municipality of Atxondo (Bizkaia). Last year it was ranked second on this list and many experts say restaurant is "really magical" . Indeed, with a little fire, simple ingredients like milk or meat, Bittor emphasizes its ability to become unforgettable dishes.
The experts who vote on this list are anonymous people from 27 countries, journalists, cooks, kitchen industry experts and gastronomy fans, all members of the Academy of the 50 Best Restaurants in the World, 540 women and 540 men.
They must vote for a minimum of six and a maximum of 10 restaurants, starting with their favorite ones. They must be local ones that have been tested over the past 18 months and only six of those selected can be from their geographical area.
Best Sommelier
Mohamed Benabdallah Etxebarri's roast sumiller has been named the best in the world at the same ceremony.
The organizers have highlighted the great personality and trajectory of this sumiller, Benabdallah being number two last year.
Born in Algeria in 1984, his life changed completely when his family moved to Switzerland when he was only 11. Benabdallah has also worked at restaurants such as Quique Dacosta or Mugaritz.
