A 62-year-old man died today in hospital after being hit on Sunday night by a tourist on the GI-636 road, off the Lintzirin industrial site in Oiartzun (Gipuzkoa), whose driver fled the scene of the accident, although he has been located and has been opened for investigation.
As reported on Monday by the Basque Government's Department of Security, the Ertzaintza Traffic Unit has opened an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the accident.
The incident was recorded thisSunday at23:10 on the 5.1 kilometre of road GI-636 in Oiartzun.
When the Ertzaintza arrived, they found a man lying on theground, fainted.
It was concluded that the man had been hit by a car from the car tracks found there, but the driver fled.
The victim was taken by ambulance to Donostia Hospital, where he died, the same sources said.
The remains found by the Ertzaintza at the scene of the accident have made it possible to identify the model of the vehicle, which has subsequently been located in Oiartzun.
The Ertzainas have also identified the driver and opened proceedings for him as an investigator.
