One of the two people arrested for assaulting four officers in Ordizia
A court in Toulouse has ordered him to be placed in pre-trial detention on charges of assault on authority and injury, while the second man arrested has been released without precautionary measures.
A court in Toulouse has agreed to send the first of those arrested in Ordizia to pre-trial detention on charges of assault on authority and assault on four ertzainas, while the second man has been released without precautionary measures, judicial sources have reported.
The first arrest took place last Sunday , around 00:18, when several Ertzaintza patrols came to the scene of a quarrel between several people on Araba Street in Ordizia.
Upon arrival, a first patrol spotted three men, who began to flee up the street and were followed by the officers, at which point other persons, allegedly relatives of the former, began to insult and hinder the work of the officers.
The attitude of these persons increased tension there, and one of the men, according to the Ertzaintza, struck an ertzaina with his fist from behind, and the officer fell to the ground, fainting.
The aggressor was arrested on charges of an offence of assault on authority and an offence of injury, while the persons assisting him were acting against the Ertzainas, and the officers used defensive equipment to deal with the attacks. The patrols of the police stations in Deba Urola and Hernani came to their aid and the situation calmed down.
About quarter to nine on Sunday night, a second person was arrested in connection with the incident, but he has been released. The Ertzaintza keeps the investigation open.
