Two of those arrested for assaulting several officers in Ordizia are still in police custody
Both are awaiting trial in the next few hours, as reported by the Basque Government's Department of Security.
The two persons arrested for assaulting four Ertzainas in Ordizia, when they went to the scene of a fight, are still in the premises of the Ertzaintza awaiting trial in the next few hours, according to the Basque Department of Security.
The first of the arrests took place at around 00:18 last Sunday, when several Ertzaintza patrols came to report a quarrel between several people on Araba Street in Ordizia.
Upon arrival, a first patrol spotted three men who began to flee up the street and were followed by the Ertzainas, at which point other people, allegedly relatives of the former, began to reprimand and make the work of the Ertzainas difficult.
The violent attitude of the people increased the tension, and one of the men, particularly aggressive, according to the Ertzaintza, struck an ertzaina from behind with his fist and fell to the ground, fainting.
The aggressor was arrested on charges of assault on authority and injury, while the persons assisting him were acting against police resources and using defensive elements to deal with the attacks. The patrols of the police stations in Deba Urola and Hernani came to their aid and the situation calmed down.
At about quarter to nine on Sunday evening, a second person was arrested in connection with the incident. The two detainees are in police custody pending trial. The Ertzaintza is still conducting an open investigation. The four injured Ertzainas have been discharged from the hospital.
