10,000 people have had to be evicted from their homes in the state because of the fires; Zamora, León and Ourense are being burned down
There are about 30 active fires, 14 of them serious, and eight autonomous communities are on flame alert. The Molezuelas de la Carballeda fire could be the largest recorded in the state since data was available.
Some 10,000 people have had to be evacuated in the State as a result of the fires, most of them in Castilla y León and Galicia. Zamora, León and Ourense, where there are some 30 active fires, are the most violent sources, 14 of them serious.
In the provinceofZamora, the fire that began on Sunday in the municipality of Molezuelas de la Carballeda and has forcibly crossed the border of León is the largest fire in Spain since data was collected. More than 50 municipalities in Castilla y León have had to be evacuated and 10,000 people have been temporarily sheltered in the towns of La Bañeza, Astorga or Ponferrada.
The situation in Galicia is also worrying. The wind and difficult orography make it difficult to extinguish the fire and Ourense has been isolated by train from the plateau. The province is the most affected, with more than 13,000 hectares burned and the new population centres confined by the proximity of the flames.
In Cáceres, the fire in Jarilla remains uncontrolled. Emergency services have been on high alert in the early morning due to strong winds and the residents of Cabezabellosa have been evacuated after ignoring the orders of the authorities.
The prospects are not positive: today's temperatures are expected to rise and that will not help alleviate a situation that remains critical in large areas of the state.
