Aburto has highlighted the work of the police during Big Week with "more than 160 arrests"

The Mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto, has highlighted the work of the Municipal Police and the Ertzaintza during the Big Week, inwhich "more than 160 people have been arrested", statements he made this Sunday, in the first balance sheet offered at the Bilbaine Society, after awarding the award to the winner of the pyrotechnic contest.

"There have been no serious cases of male, racist or homophobic assault, and in all reported cases the aggressor has been arrested. In all of them, "says Aburto, who points out that at this year's festivities there have been more arrests, although fewer crimes have been reported than in the previous edition. It has also highlighted "the more than 200 kilograms of food seized before being illegally sold  and other products that pose a health hazard ", both inside and outside the holiday grounds during Big Week, twice as much as in 2024.

With regard to participation, he explains that "About 1.5 million people"has travelled to Bilbao during the Aste Nagusia and that there have been "tens of thousands of participants" in the activities and shows that have taken place during the holidays.

On the other hand, Aburto has thanked "the brigades that have cleaned the streets and the river " and "thegardeningstaff, who always deserve our utmost respect and warm applause this year. " Finally, the mayor has said that there has been less garbage collection and morerecycling  , so far without providing quantitative data, but that the "challenge" is not to clean up more, but to "pollute less."
