The weather has once again made it difficult to extinguish forest fires in Zamora and León

The weather has made it very difficult to extinguishthe forest fires that have been declared in the Iberian Peninsula, and at the moment there are 14 of the most worrying fires in Castilla y León, Galiciaand Asturias. In the last few hours some fires have been revived, and the fires in Porto (Zamora) and Garaño  (León) have forced more evacuations.

The risk remains extreme andthe risk level will not drop until Thursday or Friday, so the authorities have asked the population to exercise extreme caution.

Meanwhile, the Civil Guard has arrested a 75-year-old man in Castilla y León as the alleged perpetrator of the fire in the town of Molinaseca  (Bierzo), which has caused the most damage in Castilla y Leónin recent hours.

In Castile and Leon, where the first forest fire broke out three weeks ago, the situation is still quite alarming. In Zamora, for example, five villages around Sanabria have just been ordered to evacuate. Four of them had been evacuated in the previous days as a result of the fire that broke out in Porto on 14 August.

Thewild fire in Porto, which affects the provinces of Zamora and León, still has three active fronts ; indeed,the one that causes the greatest concern is the Cabrera Mountains, which may threaten the region of La Carballeda.

In addition, the fire in the Garaño  (Leon) area has forced the evacuation of two villages: Mora de Luna eta Vega de Caballeros. A total of 90 people have been evacuated.

On the other hand, the Xunta de Galicia has activated level 2 of emergency situation due to another fire in A Pobra do Brollon, province of Lugo . In Galicia, in addition, there are three active forest fires in the province of Ourense .

Since the first fire broke out on 13 August and until Saturday, more than 5,500 hectares have been burned in Asturias, most of them in the mountains for public use. At the moment, five forest fires have been declared, three of them in Degaña, Cangas del Narcea and Somiedo, and two in Ponga and Cabrales.

Theforest fire in Jarilla (Cáceres), which broke out on 12 August and is already under control, has calmed down 13 days after the biggest fire in thehistory of  in Extremadura, which has burned 17,355 hectares on a perimeter of 170 kilometres.
