A man has been arrested for assaulting his former partner in Tudela
An off-duty Spanish National Police officer arrested a man last night on the AP-68 motorway while the Tudela Municipal Police were looking for him for assaulting his former partner.
The events began at 9.30 p.m., when the man went to his ex-wife's home to pick up his son, the National Police reported in a statement.
The woman noticed that the man was not in a position to drive and carry the minor, which led to a quarrel.
According to reports, the assailant repeatedly beat his ex-wife in the face while uttering constant cries and insults. The situation alerted the residents, who called the Tudela Municipal Police.
Realizing that he could be arrested, the man fled, leaving the child with his mother, and began driving at great speed, making aggressive manoeuvres.
At that moment, an off-duty National Police officer noticed the dangerous way to drive and decided to follow him. The chase continued until it entered the AP-68. There, the driver hit a vehicle he was trying to overtake, losing control of the car.
Subsequently, when identifying the person responsible for the accident, it was established that the Tudela Municipal Police were the man wanted for the assault on his ex-wife.
In view of this situation, the officers arrested him for ill-treatment and gender-based violence within the family, as well as for incidents related to the accident.
The detainee will be brought before the court within the next few hours, where both the assault on his ex-wife and the circumstances of the AP-68 traffic accident will be investigated.
