Osakidetza will begin work on the new external consultation building at Basurto Hospital in October
The Department of Health of the Basque Government has invested 135 million euros in this new infrastructure, which will have an area of 38,000 square metres. In total, 175 new consultations will be opened, divided into two blocks.
The construction of the new external consultation building at the Basurto University Hospital in Osakidetza will begin in October with the refurbishment of the hospital complex, a first phase in which the work will not interfere with the daily practice of medical professionals.
The new building will be located where the workers' parking lots are currently located, where the old building of the UPV/EHU Medical School was located, with an investment of 135 million euros, which will take three years to complete the entire work, with a total of 38,000 square metres divided into two blocks in which there will be about 175 consultations, as well as treatment, testing and procedure rooms and radiology services.
All this was announced this morning in Basurto by the Basque Government's Health Advisor , Alberto Martínez. The presentation was also attended by theDirector-General of Osakidetza Lore Bilbao, the Mayorof Bilbao Juan Mari Aburto and the Manager of the OSI Jesus Larrañaga.
The construction will take place in several phases . In this first phase, which will begin in October, work will begin to adapt the hospital complex. Martinez has stressed during the visit that "this activity will strengthen the commitment of the Basque Government to the well-being of the citizens through a robust, modern and more accessible health system".
Martinez has stated that "this new infrastructure will have the necessary space to meet the growing demand and thus respond to new benefits, a new model of care organization based on multidisciplinary approach, new care profiles and high-resolution consultations. On the other hand, it will improve infrastructure and equipment, creating a safer and more accessible environment for both citizens and professionals." With this, the Department of Health and Osakidetza will strengthen the strategy for improving the health system.
The circumstances of the work
During the performance of their duties, special organizational measures shall be established:
· Accesses: The entrance to the centre (Gurtubay Street) will be closed and alternative access to users will be made available from the corner of Gurtubay Street (Arrupe) and the entrance to Montevideo Avenue, and work has begun to establish an exclusive entrance for professionals.
-Traffic: Access to the hospital will be guaranteed, although parking inside will be prohibited. The current one-way lane surrounding the hospital will be closed, so that some areas will henceforth have a double sense of circulation, which will entail not only a ban on parking inside, but also pedestrian changes.
