Osakidetza will extend breast cancer screening to 48 years
President Imanol Pradales has visited the works of the new Osakidetza Protontherapy Unit, where he has made the announcement.
LehendakariImanol Pradales has announced that the breast cancer screening program in the Basque Country will be extended to all women between the ages of 48 and 69 , so Osakidetza will reduce the age of participation by two years (the first test iscurrently being carried out at the age of 50).
Thanks to this population screening programme, in which 80% of the target population participates, and personalized treatments for breast cancer, the previous survival of this type of tumor is 88% after 5 years, improving clinical results and the quality of life of patients.
The lehendakari made this announcement during his visit to the construction of the new building that will house the new Protontherapy Unit of the Basque Country for the treatment of cancer in the health area of Donostia Hospital.
