The man arrested in Irun for attempting to strangle his former partner has been sent to prison
Neighbors helped the victim and held the attacker until Ertzaintza officers arrived.
Last Sunday, the Ertzaintza arrested a 40-year-old man in Irun (Gipuzkoa) for attempting to strangle his former partner. The detainee was brought to justice this Tuesday on charges of attempted murder and the judge ordered him to be imprisoned.
According to the Department of Safety and Security, the events took place early on Sunday morning, when a man grabbed a woman who had been his partner by the neck and tried to strangle her on the stairs of the house.
The woman was escorted by the neighbours ; the assailant was removed and detained until Ertzaintza patrols arrived. In addition to assaulting the woman, the assailant forcibly entered her home, breaking furniture and electrical equipment.
The man had previously had a restraining order against the woman, but this judicial measure was no longer in force.
The officers arrested the man and, once the proceedings had been completed, he had been placed at the disposal of the Irun Women's Violence Court, which had ordered his admission to prison.
The victim was treated in a health facility. The Ertzaintza deployed a protocol for gender-based violence.
